Speech pathologists assess individuals with complex communciation needs across a range of contexts. Communication is much more than spoken language.
People across the lifespan make their needs and wants and thoughts known via a range of means.
Speech pathologists determine the most effective strategies and means of communication for children and adults based on a comprehensive assessment process. They review operational skills, linguistic skills; social capacity and purpose of the communication system.
The clinician may facilitate a combination of strategies to make communication effective. This may include using spoken word/s, signs, pictures, photos or technology such as an ipad or dedicated AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) system.
Our team value all modes of communication equally and work to build an individual’s communication success and access within their environments.
